## Cannabis in Thailand: Complete Guide for Tourists and Visitors

### Is cannabis legal in Thailand?

Cannabis was decriminalized in Thailand in June 2022, making it the first country in Southeast Asia to do so. As of 27 June 2025, Thailand tightened its framework: cannabis flower is now classified as a "controlled herb" under the Traditional Thai Medicine (TTM) system. A valid medical prescription (PT33 form) issued by a licensed Thai practitioner is now required to legally purchase cannabis flower.

Stash BKK can facilitate an on-site telemedicine assessment for 100 THB. The practitioner—not the shop—decides whether the patient qualifies and what quantity is medically necessary.

Tourists and foreign visitors may be assessed by an authorised Thai practitioner. A passport and age 20+ do not guarantee eligibility, and a foreign medical-cannabis card does not replace the Thai PT33.

**Key rules:**
- Legal for customers aged 20 and above only

### Where can I smoke weed in Bangkok?

Do not smoke cannabis in public or anywhere it can create a nuisance. Private property is not blanket permission: follow the prescription, obtain the owner's permission, comply with hotel and building policies, and avoid affecting neighbours or the public.

A retail dispensary licence alone does not authorise on-site smoking. DTAM guidance describes a narrow medical-facility exception involving a dedicated separate room for medical purposes. Stash BKK's customer lounges are amenities, not advertised smoking rooms; ask staff about current premises rules.

### Where to buy weed in Bangkok

Stash BKK is one of Bangkok's most established dispensary chains, with four licensed branches across the city. We stock a curated selection of Thai-grown flower in multiple strains. Staff provide guidance on strain selection, effects, and appropriate dosing for new visitors.

### Do I need a prescription? Where can I get one?

Yes. As of 27 June 2025, a PT33 medical prescription from a licensed Thai practitioner is legally required to purchase cannabis flower from any dispensary in Thailand.

**Stash BKK can facilitate an on-site PT33 telemedicine assessment for 100 THB.** An authorised practitioner conducts the consultation, records the clinical basis, and decides whether to issue a prescription. The consultation typically takes around 10–15 minutes, subject to availability. A PT33 may cover no more than a 30-day medically necessary supply.

Bring your passport or ID and any relevant medical information. An assessment is often completed during the same visit, subject to practitioner availability, but a prescription is never guaranteed.

### Can I bring cannabis on a plane?

**Domestic flights (within Thailand):** Do not assume carriage is permitted. Check current government, airport, and airline rules before travel and keep any prescribed product with its documentation.

**International flights:** Taking any cannabis product out of Thailand on an international flight is strictly illegal, regardless of THC content. This includes flower, edibles, oils, and CBD products. Thai customs and airport security actively enforce this. Penalties are severe. Do not attempt to bring cannabis products home.

## Kratom in Thailand

### Is kratom legal?

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) was removed from Thailand's narcotics list in August 2021, but that does not make every product, sale, or use unrestricted. The Kratom Plant Act B.E. 2565 (2022) and product-specific laws regulate matters including protected groups, sale locations, advertising, product format, labelling, import, and health claims.

Kratom is classified as a herb, overseen by the Thai Ministry of Justice. Consuming kratom mixed with narcotics or controlled substances remains prohibited.

Stash BKK applies a 20+ store policy to kratom sales. Current stock, format, source, and applicable records must be checked against the exact product label in store. PT33 is a cannabis controlled-herb prescription form and should not be treated as proof that a kratom product or sale complies with its separate rules.

**Note on international travel:** Importing or exporting kratom requires a license from the Narcotics Control Board (NCB). Kratom's legal status varies widely by country — do not travel internationally with kratom without confirming its status at your destination. It is illegal in several countries including Australia, Malaysia, and some US states.

## Edibles in Thailand

### Are cannabis edibles legal?

Cannabis edible legality is product-specific. A shop licence or a low-dose claim does not prove that the exact formulation, registration, label, manufacturer, and THC content comply.

Product-specific registration, formulation, THC limits, labelling, and prescription requirements matter. Stash BKK stocks only the specific Thai FDA-approved Baked Brand cookies labelled 1.6 mg THC and no other cannabis edibles. Ask to see the exact current label and supporting in-store records; this product-specific approval does not extend to the entire Baked Brand range.

For edibles from other brands sold elsewhere, dosing accuracy varies significantly. Start with a low dose and wait at least two hours before taking more — edible effects onset more slowly and last significantly longer than smoking.

## Vapes and E-Cigarettes in Thailand

### Are vapes legal in Thailand?

**No. E-cigarettes, vape pens, pod devices, e-liquids, disposables, and all related vaping products are illegal in Thailand.** This ban has been in place since 2014 and covers all electronic smoking devices regardless of nicotine content — including CBD and nicotine-free devices.

Importing a vape into Thailand — including in your carry-on or checked luggage — is illegal under the Customs Act. Penalties include fines of 20,000–30,000 THB and potential imprisonment of up to 10 years. In early 2025, the Thai Prime Minister ordered a nationwide enforcement crackdown. In a single week (Feb 26 – March 4, 2025), police made 690 arrests and seized nearly 455,000 vaping products.

**There is no tourist exemption. There is no personal use allowance. You cannot declare a vape at customs to make it legal.**

The safest advice: leave all vaping devices at home before traveling to Thailand. Nicotine patches and gum are legal and available at Thai pharmacies (Boots, Watsons) and are the recommended alternative.

### Are nicotine pouches like Zyn legal in Thailand?

Nicotine pouches (Zyn, Velo, and similar tobacco-free oral nicotine products) occupy a legal grey area in Thailand. They are not banned under the same laws as e-cigarettes. Physical retail sales exist and personal use is generally tolerated.
