Thai Cannabis Laws Explained
Cannabis was decriminalised in Thailand in June 2022 under the Narcotics Act amendment, removing it from the list of Category 5 narcotics. This made Thailand the first country in Asia to take this step and opened the door to a legal cannabis industry.
As of 2026, cannabis flower and kratom can be legally sold at licensed dispensaries. You must be 20 years of age or older to purchase. Public smoking in enclosed spaces remains prohibited under Thai law — always use designated smoking areas or private spaces.

Kratom (กระท่อม, Mitragyna speciosa) is a native Thai plant that was legalised in 2021 under the Kratom Plant Act B.E. 2565. It's a stimulant at low doses and sedative at high doses, traditionally used by Thai labourers.
