That distinction matters because the word “lounge” is used loosely. It may describe customer seating, games, music, food, or a rooftop amenity. It should not be read as proof that cannabis consumption is permitted there.
Retail shop versus consumption room
A licensed cannabis retailer may dispense flower when the customer has a valid PT33 prescription and the sale follows current requirements. On-site smoking is a separate issue.
Current Ministry of Public Health enforcement guidance identifies allowing cannabis smoking inside an establishment as a licensing violation. DTAM’s FAQ describes only a narrow exception involving an authorised medical facility and a dedicated separate room used for medical purposes.
A dispensary can be properly licensed to sell flower without being authorised as a cannabis-consumption venue. Never infer smoking permission from the words “licensed,” “lounge,” “private,” or “rooftop.”
What customer lounges actually offer
Many Bangkok dispensaries provide amenities that make the shopping experience more comfortable:
- Seating and air conditioning
- Product education and consultation areas
- PS5, PS4, board games, or massage chairs
- WiFi and music
- Café or rooftop hospitality areas where separately permitted

How a lawful purchase works

The prescription and retail transaction do not change the smoking rules. Keep the product sealed until you are in a place where the prescription, owner permission, building rules, and nuisance requirements all allow its use.
What about CBD cafés?
CBD or hemp cafés are not the same as cannabis-flower coffeeshops. Product composition, registration, THC level, food rules, and the premises’ licences determine what may legally be served. Do not assume every drink or edible marketed with cannabis imagery contains an authorised cannabis ingredient.
Avoid public and unverified consumption
Do not smoke on streets, pavements, public transport, beaches, parks, markets, hotel shared areas, or inside bars and restaurants that cannot show specific authorisation. Public smoke or odour can trigger nuisance enforcement.
