“Weed shop” is a casual search term. “Dispensary” is a common retail description. Neither word on a sign proves that a Bangkok business is operating under a valid controlled-herb licence or following the current medical process.
1. Ask to see the current licence
A legitimate operator should be able to identify the licence under which controlled cannabis flower is sold and its validity period. Thailand’s transition rules matter: DTAM states that holders of qualifying older licences may continue until those licences expire, after which the newer requirements apply.
Read the DTAM controlled-herb guidance and DTAM licensing FAQ for the official framework. A shop is not automatically unlicensed just because its current document predates the newest licence format.
2. Check the product can be traced
Premium lighting and expensive jars are not quality evidence. Ask for:
- Product name and batch or lot identity
- Producer or source information
- Packaging or receiving date where applicable
- Storage information
- A certificate of analysis or other supporting test record tied to the product, where available

3. Separate budtender help from medical authorization
A budtender can explain the shop, product documentation, formats, and prices. Diagnosis and medical authorization belong to an appropriately licensed Thai practitioner.

4. Expect an age check
Stash BKK serves customers aged 20 and over. Current restrictions also protect pregnant and breastfeeding people. A shop that ignores basic eligibility checks is giving you useful information about its wider compliance culture.
5. Watch how the shop sells
Be cautious if a business:
- Offers online or delivery sales of controlled cannabis flower
- Promises a cure or guaranteed medical result
- Treats PT33 as an automatic add-on without practitioner assessment
- Cannot explain where a product came from
- Refuses to provide an itemized receipt
- Encourages public smoking
- Sells to under-20 customers

6. Look beyond the word “premium”
“Premium,” “top shelf,” and “medical grade” can describe a seller’s positioning, but they do not replace evidence. The more useful questions concern the current licence, exact batch, test scope, origin, storage, and whether the practitioner process is genuine.

Is every Bangkok “dispensary” licensed?
The word itself is not proof. Check the business’s current controlled-herb licence and validity period.
Are older shop licences still valid?
Some qualifying older licences may remain valid until their stated expiry during the transition. The business must then meet the newer requirements when applying again.
Does a COA prove a product is safe?
Not by itself. Confirm that it matches the exact batch, comes from an identifiable laboratory, includes relevant test categories, and is recent enough to be meaningful.
Can a licensed shop deliver cannabis flower?
Current DTAM guidance restricts online sales of controlled cannabis flower. Stash BKK does not deliver cannabis flower.
